You are a soldier about to be sent through to the world of Quake for the first time. You are very eager to step through onto the alien soil and taste the blood of your hated Quake enemy. But fear dominates your thoughts. What if they are waiting on the other side for us? 45 minutes ago a decoy had been sent through with a camera attached. It showed a barren dark rocky crevace. The area was empty, and the decoy returned without any damage.

You are now being sent through with 19 other soldiers, armed with Shotguns, Nailguns and Rocket Launchers. The time had finally arrived, and the first man bravely stepped through. 30 seconds later he returned with the all clear. The area was deserted and we can now all move forward to the dreaded world. As the men in front of me slowly lessen, I got more nervous. And then it was finally my turn. I held my Rocket Launcher tighter, and stepped through...

Your were deafened by the sound of explosions. Cries of pain and death were drowned out. You were covered in blood and gibs from the other soldiers. You had no idea what was happening, but in pure fear you ran forwards, gripping your Rocket Launcher. As you blinked and cleared the blood from your eyes, you saw them. Five obese figures standing above you on a hill. A group of Ogres! They were lobbing grenades down at the slipgate as soon as the soldiers had teleported through. It was a miracle you managed to get through without being gibbed. You raised your heavy weapon and let off a rocket at them. It hit the first Ogre perfectly and blew him apart. The others all stumbled backwards in the blast. This was the diversion needed! The remaining unsuspecting soldiers that came through managed to make it unhurt. The Ogres jumped back up and lobbed more grenades down at the slipgate, but the soldiers were quick to leap out of the way and join you in firing back at them. A spray of Nails and Rockets pummelled them into a bloody mess. The battle was soon over, with you and four other soldiers still standing. By the slipgate lay a huge puddle of blood and gore - the remains of 15 other soldiers.

The Ogres must have hidden somewhere waiting for your group. And to make matters worse, the endless explosions of grenades had eventually destroyed the slipgate. You and your group were now stuck in the enemy world!

Weeks had since passed. The five of you were still alive, living off the the disgusting meat of Quake's animals. This world's atmosphere was dark and thick. Everything smelt horrible. You wondered if you would ever get home again. There must be a slipgate leading back to Earth. You must have walked hundreds of miles. But you had been lucky, having avoided Quake's monsters so far. The world seemed to be deserted, with just the occasional lone Scrag. You no longer carried your Rocket Launcher, having run out of rockets long ago. You now just had a Shotgun. But that would not be enough for what you were soon to stumble across...

In the far reaches of Quake's world remains a region untouched by the bloody hands of war. A region far North at the tip of the dark world, named Rime. Seperated from the rest of the world, Rime is a very different land. Eternally cold and Wintry the beasts have evolved to live in these snowy conditions.

Your group of five were already at Rime. The land had slowly become colder, and snow was seeping it's way into the ground. Working your way through cliffs and mountains, you could not see far ahead. As you climbed down a steep snowy bank, you suddenly heard something to your side. It was a roar! Before you even had time to look, the huge beast had already killed one of your crew. As you jumped behind some boulders you watched a large bolt of lightning come from the furry monsters claws and fry another of your men. Your shotgun wasn't going to do much damage, but you let the rounds fly as the other two in your party also let him have it. One had a nailgun and the other a double-barreled shotgun. The beast was in pain, but it didn't stop it from ripping another soldier apart with it's bare claws. It spun around, and with one last breath managed to let go another steak of lightning into the other soldier.

It was just you now. The Shambler lay dead, as did your four buddies all sinking into the blood stained snow. You hardly had time to move before hearing a roar in the distance. Another Shambler! You wouldn't stand a chance. So you ran in the other direction, following the small paths carved between mountains looming above you. Soon the path became very thin and the cliffs grow closer as you jump down a small crevice. There is no turning back anymore, it's too steep and you don't want to fight the other Shambler. You'll just need to keep pushing forward...
